What It Costs to Send Money to Bangladesh from the US
In the 2024 Q3 World Bank Remittance Prices Worldwide quarterly survey, sending USD 200 from the United States to Bangladesh carried a median total cost of 7.93% and an average total cost of 8.15% of the amount sent. Total cost as defined in that survey combines two components: the upfront transfer fee charged by the provider and the exchange-rate margin, which is the difference between the mid-market rate and the rate the provider applies to the transaction.
Across the 21 providers surveyed in that same 2024 Q3 snapshot, the range of total costs ran from a low of 5.07% to a high of 11.96%, a spread of nearly seven percentage points. The cheapest surveyed option in the 2024 Q3 data was Walmart2World at 5.07% total cost. That figure is specific to the survey date and may not reflect current pricing, as provider fees and exchange-rate margins change independently of the survey schedule.
Costs within this corridor also vary depending on how the sender funds the transfer, such as bank account versus debit or credit card, and how the recipient receives the funds, such as bank deposit or cash pickup.
