How this data works — the World Bank RPW survey

Every figure on this site comes from one place: the World Bank's Remittance Prices Worldwide (RPW) survey. This page explains what that survey measures, what it doesn't, and how to read our numbers.

Who’s behind this site

Money Transfer by Country is an independent publisher operated by VentureCorp, Inc. We are not a money-transfer provider, a bank, or an agent of any provider, and we show surveyed prices — not live quotes.

How we calculate

Each quarter the World Bank mystery-shops the cost of sending two fixed amounts — USD 200 and USD 500 for US corridors — through the providers active in each corridor. Total cost % is the transfer fee plus the exchange-rate margin (the gap between the offered rate and the interbank rate), expressed as a percent of the amount sent. That is the only honest way to compare a 'zero-fee' provider with a fee-charging one. Providers are classed as Bank, Money Transfer Operator (MTO) or Mobile Operator. We publish the survey figures as-is: medians, averages, ranges, and the per-provider quotes — always dated to the survey quarter, because prices move. Surveyed prices are not live quotes; check the provider for today's price.

Independence & how we make money

Some links may be affiliate links to transfer providers; if you use one we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Survey data is never altered, reordered, or weighted by partner status — 'cheapest surveyed' is a survey fact, not a placement. This is general information, not financial advice.

Keeping it current

RPW publishes quarterly with roughly a one-quarter lag; the site currently carries the 2024 Q3 survey and is refreshed each release. Every page states its survey period.
